Regarding the Lettre ouverte à Nicolas Sarkozy

Englib's Catherine Lavallee-Welch helped translate the gist of the organizations requests:

The three unions ask for legislative reform to recognize the judicial independence of the front-line journalists;
that government help not just the publishers or the stockholders, but they add policies that safeguard jobs and information quality;
to make sure that public radio and TV receive resources to fulfill their missions;
to assure French media outside the country gets what they need to fully continue their mission.

Original French:

Monsieur le Président, en cette journée européenne pour la défense du journalisme, les trois syndicats français membres de la FEJ vous demandent :
 d’accéder à leur demande d’une réforme législative qui viserait à reconnaître enfin l’indépendance juridique des équipes rédactionnelles quelles que soient la forme de presse et la taille de l’entreprise médiatique ;
 de veiller à ce que les aides publiques à la presse ne servent plus seulement à enrichir des actionnaires ni à regarnir provisoirement des trésoreries, mais accompagnent des politiques volontaristes privilégiant la qualité de l’information et la sauvegarde des emplois ;
 de garantir des ressources pérennes pour que les services publics de radio et de télévision remplissent pleinement l’intégralité de leurs missions ;
 de confirmer à l’audiovisuel extérieur de la France ses missions dans toute leur plénitude ou leur diversité.

As I understand French, "demandent " is best translated as "ask." Catherine gave me the word by word translations and I wrote the gist as I understand the situation. Any errors in translation are therefore my fault.
